The Verdict is out: Guilty by Dr Pravin Thevathasan
I say this as an author of a work on sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. I believe that many men entered the priesthood who should never have been permitted, men with a sexual attraction for adolescent boys and young men. I have read extensively about how they carefully groomed their victims. Where was all of this in the case of Cardinal Pell? If he is an opportunistic psychopath, why were there not hordes of other allegations? What now for Pell? Will he be investigated by the Vatican? Who will take the lead? Cupich? Tobin? Paglia? What did Pell find out about financial irregularities there? In the ways of providence, perhaps this is the defining moment for the Church in our times. Just read the diatribes by "progressives" about this case, both inside and outside the Church. There is no possibility of dialogue. More and more conservative Catholics will be given the Pell treatment. Any conservative Catholic priest thinking about visiting Australia should read a life of Edmund Campion. Or Mindszenty.
