Book Reviews by Dr Pravin Thevathasan
Abandoned Saint Benedict Press This brilliant book does not hide the truth about abortion. It is all there in word and picture. The author is Associate Professor of Theology at Madonna University in Michigan and founder of Citizens For A Pro-Life Society. She has been a pro-life activist for several years and brings a wealth of experience to this work. She describes the rescue and Christian burial of aborted babies abandoned and dumped outside of abortion clinics. There is also a heartening description of pregnant women abandoned into the hands of the abortion providers being rescued by pro-life counsellors. There are detailed descriptions of peaceful direct action in abortion clinics including that of Joan Andrews who was treated so unjustly by the courts. The author shows how important it is to allow women hurt by abortion to grieve. So many have become leaders in the pro-life movement. There is an odd encounter with an abortion worker who claims to be a nun. There is an even odder encounter with a judge who sentences the author after she is arrested for peaceful direct action. The pro-life people described here are people of peace. In contrast, there seems to be so much hatred among the abortion providers. After reading this book, those of us who are pro-life will be able to re-charge our batteries. Those who do not know the truth about abortion will learn why being pro-life really matters. This is one of the very best works on the defining issue of our age.
