Louis Marie de Montfort by Rev Paul Allerton SMM CTS St Louis Marie de Montfort is surely the great Marian Saint for our time. His book "True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary" inspired the founding of the Legion of Mary and other Marian movements. It is easy to forget how hated he was in his lifetime, especially by the Jansenists. This is a solid and readable account of his life. He was misunderstood and even persecuted and, as he predicted, his work was largely forgotten about for decades after his death. The particular features of his missions are described. In all of them, he gave concrete expressions to devotion to both Jesus and Mary, especially through the regular recitation of the Rosary. Above all, he proposed a total consecration of oneself to Jesus through Mary. After reading this work, one is left asking when this great Marian Saint will be proclaimed a Doctor of the Church?
