Francisco Gil Hellin is currently the Archbishop of Braga, Spain. He was for many years the
subsecretary of the Pontifical Council for the Family under Alphonso Cardinal Lopez Trujillo. I met him many times
in Rome. In 1980 he wrote a brilliant essay of over 30 pages in the Spanish journal Annales
Valintinos, Vol. 6, n.11 (1980) pp. 1-35. I translated this into English for my students
several years ago but it has never been published in English. I sent a copy to Archbishop Hellin who said that
it was a splendid translation.
