Fr. Noel Muscat OFM

Noel Muscat is a Franciscan Friar Minor from Malta. He was born in 1957 and entered the Franciscan Province of Malta in 1977. After completing his theological studies in Bologna, Italy, he was ordained priest in 1984, and specialized in Franciscan Spirituality at the Pontifical Athenaeum Antonianum in Rome, nowadays a Pontifical University. His doctoral dissertation is entitled: «The Life of Saint Francis in the Light of Saint Bonaventure’s Theology on the Verbum Crucifixum ». Noel Muscat is the author of various Franciscan publications in English and in the Maltese language, and has lectured in Malta, Canterbury and Jerusalem. In the Maltese Franciscan Province, between 1989 and 1996, he was director of initial and ongoing formation, and organised Franciscan courses for the laity, particularly the Secular Franciscan Order. Since 2004 he has been offering his service to the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land.

Fr Noel was one of the five children in the Muscat family. I lived next door to this family while I was a student in Hamrun in Malta in the nineteen sixties. I received much hospitality from them all and spent many happy hours in their company. This friendship played a big part in leading me to the Catholic Church.
